Circa Sustainability & ESG — Carbon Impact Tracking on Every Job
Circa Demo & Disposal measures the environmental impact of every project — CO₂e saved, materials diverted from landfill, and LEED credits earned. Circa is on a mission to rethink waste and keep materials in the built world, tracking carbon impact using EPA WARM v16 methodology.
Environmental Commitment: Mission to rethink waste and keep materials in the built world, 34 EPA WARM material categories tracked, 5+ donation partners (Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Building Materials Resource Center, Boston Building Resources), every job carbon-tracked with Waste-Less Vision™.
Where Materials Go: Recycled (metals, concrete to crushed aggregate, cardboard, glass, plastics), Donated (Habitat ReStore, Building Materials Resource Center, furniture banks), Salvaged & Resold (hardwood flooring, vintage doors, copper piping, structural lumber), Composted (yard waste, untreated wood, food waste, natural fiber textiles).
Carbon Accounting Methodology: Each material is mapped to one of 34 EPA WARM v16 categories. Weight is multiplied by the WARM emission factor for its disposition (recycle, compost, landfill, combustion). Negative values indicate carbon savings vs. landfill baseline. Total CO₂e impact is summed across all line items. Diversion rate = (tons diverted ÷ total tons) × 100%.
LEED Credit Documentation: MRc5 (1 point) requires 50%+ diversion from landfill. MRc5 (2 points) requires 75%+ diversion. Circa provides itemized diversion reports with weights, dispositions, and facility receipts meeting USGBC submission requirements.
Enterprise ESG Reporting: GRI 306 waste reports, SASB sustainability disclosures, LEED MRc5 documentation, Green Badger export compatibility.
Material Spotlight — Natural Stone Countertops: Granite, marble, and other natural stone countertops are 100% recyclable. Many local fabricators will pick up intact slabs for free because the material has inherent resale value — they recut it for vanities, tabletops, thresholds, and window sills. Even broken slabs are crushed into aggregate for road beds, landscaping, and drainage. Under the Massachusetts waste ban (310 CMR 19.017), concrete and stone are prohibited from landfill disposal. Natural stone requires zero chemical processing, emits zero VOCs, and has a lifecycle measured in centuries. Circa assesses all natural stone for salvage potential on every kitchen and bathroom demolition. Partners include Conigliaro Industries (Framingham, MA) for stone fabrication waste recycling and Habitat for Humanity ReStore (West Roxbury, MA) for intact countertop donations. Industry Context: The EPA estimates 600 million tons of C&D debris is generated annually in the US. Massachusetts generates approximately 2.5 million tons of C&D waste per year. The state's waste ban (310 CMR 19.017) targets 70% diversion. Sources: EPA "Advancing Sustainable Materials Management" (2024), MA DEP Solid Waste Master Plan.
